cc:Clients newsletters are not spam. We use e-mail as a tool to help deliver relevant information to a firm's existing contacts. Your contact lists are the property of your firm, and we use them exclusively to deliver your communications. With each weekly issue, recipients are offered the opportunity to unsubscribe, and all requests are handled promptly and confirmed with both the contact and the firm.
The U.S. CAN-SPAM Act, the first federal law in the United States that regulates spam, became effective January 1, 2004. Among other things, with respect to certain e-mail messages, the CAN-SPAM Act:
- Forbids "materially false or materially misleading" header information;
- Prohibits subject lines that "would be likely to mislead a recipient";
- Requires a "functioning return electronic mail address";
- Mandates the inclusion of a "clear and conspicuous" notice allowing recipients to opt out of receiving future e-mails; and
- Demands that e-mail senders promptly honor recipients' requests to unsubscribe.
These requirements are not only the law; they're also good business practices. That's why all cc:Clients e-mail newsletters have always complied with these restrictions, even before the existence of the CAN-SPAM Act.
